St Stephens House

A new-build home on a challenging site in central Bath

I coordinated planning, pre-commencement works and the entire build on this steep hillside site. Before construction could begin, archaeological investigations were required because the site was thought to lie at the edge of a Roman burial ground. Creating a level building area involved removing almost 10,000 tonnes of material and carefully dismantling a listed retaining wall, which was rebuilt to match the original after construction.

Completed in 13 months, including excavation, the house combines distinctive internal spaces with parking integrated into the building behind electric gates. A roof terrace with decking and planting provides an open outdoor space with extensive views across Bath.
