Chalk Vale House

An energy-efficient country house shaped by careful planning and detailing

I substantially improved the planning consent inherited from the previous owner through four separate applications covering the house, garage and swimming pool. Transforming a sloping agricultural field into a setting for the new home required careful coordination of the building and landscaping. Demolition of the existing barn and construction of the house took 15 months, followed by four months of finishing and snagging. The garage and the pool with its pool house each took three months to build.

Thermal detailing went beyond minimum Building Regulations requirements, supported by a heat pump, a 10kW solar installation and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. The same care extended to the interior design, materials and finishes, bringing together energy efficiency, everyday comfort and a carefully considered family home.
